Biography

Ejeagba Okorie Imo received his Bachelor of Technology degree, B.Tech (Microbiology), M.Sc. (Environmental Health Biology) and presently, at the final stage of his P.hD program in Environmental Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

He worked as a lecturer in the department of Science Laboratory Technology, Temple Gate Polytechnics, Aba, before joining the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) in 2019. He is an ardent advocate of environmental health and sustainability culture. He holds the United Nations Institute for Training & Research (UNITAR) certificates on Climate Change and Human Health.  Mr Imo has written several published scientific articles in the field of environmental pollution, environmental health and biocorrosion of metals and their inhibition by plant extracts.

In his spare time, he likes to listen to spiritual songs, take a long walk or meditate on the word of God.

Research Interest

My research interests centre on interactions between the microbial communities and their geochemical environment, biodeterioration of metallic and non-metallic materials and the use of microorganisms in bioremediation processes.  My recent work focuses on microbial influence corrosion of metals and biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

My research goal is to develop and apply innovations in microbiology and biotechnology in solving problems associated with environmental deterioration brought about by anthropogenic activities.
