FUTO Health Services Timely Response Saves Gunshot Victim

The Health Services of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri on Monday, March 4, 2019, performed a successful surgery on Mr John Linus Nyok who was shot at close range in the thigh.
Mr Nyok, a 500 level student of Environmental Technology (EVT) said he was shot along Ihiagwa Market square around 5:30 am, on his way to church. According to him, two men on a motorbike attacked him and made away with his belongings, after shooting him.
In his reaction, the Medical Director, Dr J.K. Aguocha explained that the patient, who had lost lots of soft tissue on his right leg, was rushed to the Centre in the early hours of that day. He said that Nyok was saved by the timely response of the medical team on ground who gave him prompt attention and hoped that there would not be any form of disability caused by dead tissues in his body after the wound has healed.
The surgery was successful as many gun bullets were removed from the patient’s thigh.
Also reacting, the Head of the nursing unit, Dr. (Mrs) Ngozi Okereke decried the spate of violent crimes by the youths in a bid to acquire illicit wealth. She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for providing a 24-hour generator to attend to emergencies which have helped to avert a loss of lives.
