Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies FUTO Organizes One-Day Training for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff

The Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies organised its second workshop of the year, a one-day workshop for staff themed ‘Teaching Skills and Talent Hunt in Entrepreneurship’ held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Centre’s Conference Room.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Centre, Prof. C.C. Eze, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his support and happily informed all present that the Centre has now expanded the skill acquisition training they offer to include the production of fruit drinks, detergents, insecticides, clothing materials, bed sheets and confectionaries. The participants were pleasantly surprised when Prof. Eze revealed that the artistic interior decoration of the venue was done by the staff of the Centre.
He also announced that they are partnering with the Department of Food Science and Technology towards producing bread and teaching the same to the students. He said with the provision of 100KVA generator, workshop equipment and production of manual for workshop practice by the University Management, the future of the centre is very bright.
The Member of the 11th Governing Council said the essence of the workshop was to refresh the minds of the staff and lecturers the teaching skills that have been taken for granted particularly as it concerns hands-on-tools and creative innovations, equip the staff on new teaching techniques in entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, ensure that at the end of the workshop, the participants must have imbibed the needed teaching skills and how to carry out talent hunt among students and develop the talents to the benefit of humanity amongst others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Chukwuemeka Eze, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Julius S. Orebiyi commended the Director and his team for the timely theme of the workshop as a good knowledge of teaching skills by the staff will go a long way in the subject matter delivery and understanding of subject by the students to better harness talents for the good of the society. The Vice-Chancellor said efforts are been made towards the provision of teaching courses and training materials for practical sections as well as provision of ad-hoc staff who will be involved in the training and production of hand- made items for the University Community. He also promised to make the full possession of the skill acquisition Centre of the institute possible to provide enough space for practical sessions.
He specially commended the former Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr. (Mrs.) Cele Njoku, who is on sabbatical leave at the centre and one of the speakers at the workshop, for being a pillar of strength and support since her arrival at the Entrepreneurial Centre.
During the technical session, Dr. (Mrs) Cele Njoku delivered two papers titled; Teaching/Learning principles, Teaching Learning /Principles of skilled courses and Teaching /Learning strategies, methodologies/terminologies/techniques, while Prof. Sabbas N. Asoegwu, the Director of the Centre for Industrial Studies gave the third paper on; Harnessing student’s potentials, tapping talents/talent hunt.
