Prof. Etuk is a Registered Animal Scientist (RAS) and a 1997 First Class Honours, Bachelors of Agricultural Technology (Animal Production) graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. He also holds the MSc and PhD degrees in Animal Nutrition. He is an Alumnus of the Australia Awards Africa Fellowship at the University of New England, Armidale, Australia and United Nations University Institute for Natural Resource in Africa (UNU/INRA) hosted at the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon where he trained on Computer Applications for Analysis and Management of Natural Resources.
Prof. Etuk began his carrier as a Technical Assistant at Gracib Investment Ltd, a multi livestock specie production and processing business based in his native Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He later joined the Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP) as Agricultural Officer in the Extension sub-programme. He took up an appointment in the Department of Animal Science and Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri as Assistant Lecturer in 2001 and rose by dint of hard work and God’s grace to the rank of Professor of Animal Science in 2016 specialising in Animal Nutrition with a research interest in emerging animal feed resources, feeding and production system. He has published and made presentations extensively in the area of alternative feed resources, poultry feeding and management. He served as Head, Department of Animal Science and Technology after a two-year stint as Associate Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology; He also served at different times as University Alumni Officer and Associate Dean, Student Affairs; He was also the Deputy Director, Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension all at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria.
Prof. Etuk was elected into the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP) as Assistant Secretary from 2014 to 2016 and as Secretary during the 41st Annual conference of NSAP at Abeokuta, Nigeria in March 2016. He is a member of several other professional and academic societies. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Sustainable Development Network Initiative (SDNI), a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to the economic and social development of the youths, women and other vulnerable members of the community. He lives in Owerri with his wife Uyai Nneka Etuk, also an Animal Scientist and together they have two boys, Toroabasi and Keneabasi and one girl, Imaabasi.
