About the Centre
The Central Instruments Equipment Centre (CIEC) of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri is a Unit of the University established to provide workstead for Laboratory instruments/equipment maintenance and services.
The Centre metamorphosed from the World Bank Equipment Maintenance and Procurement Unit facilitated through the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) in 1995 to become CIEC in 2011, intended to achieve sustainable functional laboratory equipment systems required for the encouragement of research and effective teaching in science, engineering and technology in our University. Currently, the Centre is in its building made up of the administration office section with a conference hall, for training and the technical section with three workshops namely:
- Mechanical (Machine shop & Opto Mechanical instrumentation)
- Electrical (Electrical/electromagnetic instrumentation)
- Electronic, Calibrations and Testing Workshop
