Nkemakolam Akajiaku Nwogu had his secondary education at Holy Ghost College, Owerri (1997). He obtained his B.Sc. (Microbiology) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His M.Sc. (Environmental and Public Health Microbiology) was awarded by University of Benin (2010) where he is currently a PhD student. N.A. Nwogu worked at Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Lagos for eight years before joining the Federal University of Technology, Owerri as an Assistant Lecturer in Department of Microbiology.

His areas of specialization and research interest centres on environmental, petroleum and public health microbiology with emphasis on pollution control, biodegradation and bioremediation studies. Previous research was on biodegradation of environmental pollutants especially plastics using indigenous white-rot fungi. His current research work focuses on the effects of herbicides on soil microbial communities with the application of molecular methods. His research also evaluates ecotoxicity of xenobiotics on soil microbial populations using biological sentinels such as earthworm, Nitrobacter and Nitrosomonas. Mathematical models are developed and employed in the prediction of their toxicities.
