Prof. Viola Adaku Onwuliri is a university professor of Biochemistry who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Minister of State for Education and briefly as Imo State Commissioner for Education. She attended Owerri Girls’ Secondary School before proceeding to the University of Nigeria Nsukka where she got her B.Sc. in Biochemistry. She also attended the University of Jos where she achieved a PGDE, an MSc and a PhD. She then went for certificate courses at Howard University and Harvard School of Public Health in the USA. She has taught at the university level for over 35 years and has attended and presented papers in many local and international conferences and workshops. She has published over 70 scholarly articles in national and international journals and has authored/co-authored many books and book chapters in mainstream University texts on General Biochemistry and Chemistry as well as in specialized areas of Tropical Diseases and HIV/AIDS. A Researcher, University Lecturer and University Senate Member of several different universities where she had served. She has successfully supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate theses. She is a grandmother, a Catholic, a Lady of Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and one of the delegates chosen by the President of Nigeria in 2013 to attend the Papal inauguration of Pope Francis.
