You are welcome to the Department of Information Technology, one of the most vibrant Departments in the School of Information and Communication Technology, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). 

The Department of Information Technology was established in March 2004 (then as the Department of Information Management Technology (IMT) under the then School of Management Technology (SMAT)), following the approval by the University Senate. It came on board in response to the growing need to train individuals to acquire relevant Information Technology skills and to use the skills acquired to advance the business sector by creating new business processes and enhancing existing ones.

The department is particularly known for its quest for advancement in technology with a unique focus on practical training of undergraduate and graduate students in the area of Information Technology. For the fact that Information Technology is a dynamic field, the Department promotes constant interaction with relevant industry partners and organizes workshops and seminars to help both staff and students keep abreast with the realities of our times. Such workshops and seminars also ensure that our students receive requisite practical training to take up the challenge of industry life when they graduate.    

The 4^th Industrial Revolution is here with us and every serious student must at least possess the basic 21^st century ICT skills to be an active participant in the new digital economy. This is what our department stands for. Our Department achieves this via the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning in order to produce highly skilled graduates in Information Technology. We also promote academic research activities geared towards solving national and international problems.

We believe that our dream as a Department can be actualized, especially through collaboration, communication, and constant interaction with industry stakeholders, leading ultimately to knowledge discovery in the new digital economy.
