A new Deputy Vice-Chancellorship position has been created by the Management of Federal University of Technology, Owerri. The Governing Council at its 172nd meeting held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, approved the recommendation of the Senate for the appointment of Prof. Bede Chinyere Anusionwu as the foremost Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research Development and Innovation) of the University.
The appointment was conveyed through a letter signed by the Registrar of the University, John U. Nnabuihe. According to the letter, the two-term appointment is an opportunity to assist the Vice-Chancellor to deliver on Research Development and Innovation in his quest to drive the culture of excellence.
Prof. Bede Anusionwu who hails from Umuezealla Ogboko in Ideato South L.G.A of Imo State started his academic pursuit at United Primary School II, Ntueke, Imo State and upon graduation, proceeded and completed his secondary education at the National High School, Arondizuogu, Imo State. In furtherance of his quest for higher education, he was admitted into the Federal University of Technology, Owerri and afterwards graduated in 1988 with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Industrial Physics. As an outstanding student, Prof. Anusionwu obtained the University Scholar Scheme Award for the best graduating student in the Department of Physics for the 1987/88 session. He later obtained his M.Sc and PhD degrees from the University of Ibadan in 1991 and 1999 respectively.
Prof. Anusionwu joined the services of Federal University of Technology, Owerri in 1991 as an Assistant Lecturer and through hard work, diligence and commitment to his duties rose through the ranks to the apogee of his career as a Professor of Physics in 2007.
Having served the University for nearly three decades, Prof. Bede has held many sensitive positions ranging from Head of Department of Physics, Associate Dean of the Defunct School of Sciences, the Pioneer Dean of School of Physical Sciences and Chairman Committee of Deans. He has also served as Chairman and Member of many University Committees and Panels until his appointment as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research Development and Innovation).
The erudite Professor of Physics has attended many courses, workshops and conferences locally and abroad, he has to credit, many scientific publications in reputable local and international journals. The University on Wednesday, 30th October 2016, decorated and admitted him as the 30th Inaugural Laureate of the University after his very robust inaugural lecture on “Liquid Metals: Searching for Properties at Elevated Temperature”.
In line with his call as a professional Physicist, he belongs to Nigeria Institute of Physics, Solar Energy Society of Nigeria, America Physical Society and Physics Writers Series Creation. He became an Associate of Abdus-Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy in 1997.
Prof. Bede C. Anusionwu, a devout Christian is married to Dr. (Mrs) Njideka Bede and the marriage is blessed with Children.
